남유림 뉴욕오프브로드웨이 공연 눈길

극작가 연출가 배우 1인3역 활약

뉴욕에서 활동하는 배우 남유림의 단편극 ‘저스트어 옐로캡 인 뉴욕시티(Just a Yellow Cab in New York City)’가 오프 브로드웨이에서 공연하게 돼 관심을 끈다.

극작가이자 연출가이기도 한 남유림의 이번 작품은 Pan Asian Repertory Theatre에서 주최하는 NuWorks Festival 2025에 선정되어 오프 브로드웨이 공연장인 Theatre Row에서 6월 18일(수) 오후 7시와 6월 22일(일) 오후 3시, 두차례 상연될 예정이다.

이 작품은 올해 초 Chain Theatre Festival에서 전석 매진(賣盡)을 기록한 바 있으며, 이번 공연은 남유림이 새롭게 연출을 맡았다.

‘Just a Yellow Cab in New York City’는 뉴욕시의 옐로 캡 택시 뒷좌석에서 펼쳐지는 2인극으로, 서른을 앞둔 Regina가 실망스러운 생일 밤 택시기사에게 자신의 이야기를 털어놓으며 벌어지는 코미디이다. 짧고도 강렬한 뉴욕의 단면을 포착한 이 작품은 도시의 고독(孤獨)과 감정의 진폭(振幅)을 섬세하게 담아낸다.

서울 출신인 남유림은 동덕여대를 졸업하고 대학로 무대에서 활동하다 2015년 미국 유학길에 올랐다. 2018년 ‘아메리칸 필매틱 아츠 어워즈’에서 심사위원 대상을 수상한 단편 코미디 영화 ‘더 밍글(The Mingle)’에 출연했다.

2023년 엘 바리오의 아트스페이스 PS109에서 아티스트 레지던시로 선정된 남유림은 국제 인디펜던트 쇼트 어워드에서 여우주연상을 수상했고 극작가 길드(Dramatists Guild)와 AEA(배우조합) 회원으로 활동하고 있다.

택시 운전사 역을 맡은 델릴 바란은 뉴욕에서 활동하는 쿠르드계 배우다. 레지나 역의 한나 신은 미시간 출신의 한국계 배우이자 모델이다. 보그와 블랑 매거진에 출연했고 메이블린, 플라밍고 브랜드의 광고 모델로 활약했다. 미시건 대학을 졸업한 그녀는 The Barrow Group에서 연기를 공부했고 단편 영화 '공기'로 데뷔 했다.

Youlim Nam is a NYC-based actor, playwright, director and producer from

Seoul, Korea. Her work has been presented at Chain Theatre, Gene Frankel

Theatre, The Clemente, and more. Her full-length play a connected

place received the City Artist Corps Grant and was later showcased in the

Dramatists Guild’s Friday Night Footlights® series. In 2023, she was awarded an

artist residency at El Barrio’s Artspace PS109, where she presented her full

length play New Year’s Day (Sae Hae). Youlim has been collaborating with

renowned artists, including three-time Emmy® winner Cady McClain on various

theater projects. Her screen credits include award-winning independent films

such as Mingle, Sunkissed Sky, and her own short Acting Is My Destiny, which
