뱅크오브호프 맨하탄 개최
비영리한인미술인 지원단체 알재단(AHL Foundation, 대표 이숙녀)이 ‘김홍빈(Hongbin Kim) 개인전’을 2025년 1월 1일(수)부터 뱅크오브호프(Bank of Hope) 맨하탄 지점에서 연다.
아트 인더 워크 플레이스(Art in the Workplace) 프로그램의 일환으로 뱅크오브오프 사무공간을 활용한 이번 전시는 존재와 가치에 대한 질문을 담고 있는 ‘MAYFLY’와 ‘Transcendence of Value’ 시리즈를 선보인다.
‘MAYFLY’는 ‘하루살이’라는 뜻으로, 한국에서 활동하던 작가가 뉴욕에서 새로운 도전에 나서며 느낀 정체성의 탐구를 주제로 담고 있다. 그는 작품 속에서 덧없는 순간 속에서의 아름다움을 감각적인 색채로 표현한다. 금빛으로 빛나는 듯한 작품의 밝은 노란색 배경은 삶의 무상함 속에서 영원(永遠)을 목격하는 듯하다.
‘Transcendence of Value’ 시리즈는 예술이 가진 물질적 가치와 사회적 가치에 대한 작가의
질문을 담았다. 작가는 액자 상자 속에 달러 지폐와 구겨진 아크릴 물감이 칠해진 종이를 다양한 방식으로 변주한다. 이를 통해 예술의 본질적 가치를 성찰하며, 회화의 본질과 지속 가능성, 작품의 화폐적 가치, 그리고 예술을 통한 생계 유지 가능성에 대한 생각을 표현하고 있다.
김홍빈(36) 작가는 홍익대학교에서 미술 학사를, School of Visual Arts에서 미술 석사(MFA)를 취득했다. 현재 뉴욕에서 거주하며 작업 활동을 전개하고 있다. 한국에서는 예명 VANHADA로 활동했다. ‘반하다(Vanhada)’는 ‘매료되다’와 ‘반대하다’라는 대척적(對蹠的)인 의미를 모두 내포하며, 긍정성과 부정성을 아우르는 작가의 창작 철학을 나타낸다.
이 전시는 누구나 일상의 상업 공간에서 한국 현대 미술 작품을 감상 할 수 있도록 알재단과
뱅크오브호프 (Bank of Hope)가 협력해 기획되었다. 알재단이 매년 진행해 온 아트 인 워크
플레이스 (Art in the Workplace) 프로그램의 일환으로 운영된다. 전시는 2025년 6월 30일까지 뱅크오브호프 맨하탄 지점 운영 시간 내(9:00 AM – 5:00 PM) 관람 가능 하다.

The AHL Foundation, a nonprofit organization supporting Korean artists, is presenting a solo exhibition by Hongbin Kim as part of its Art in the Workplace program. The exhibition is being held at the Bank of Hope Manhattan Branch (16 West 32nd Street, New York, NY 10001).
This exhibition showcases two series, MAYFLY and Transcendence of Value, both of which explore questions of existence and value. "MAYFLY"—drawing its name from the short-lived insect—delves into the artist's journey of identity as he transitioned from an established career in Korea to embarking on new challenges in New York. The series captures fleeting moments of beauty through vibrant colors. The luminous yellow background, which seems to glow like gold, evokes a sense of eternity amidst the ephemerality of life.
The "Transcendence of Value" series incorporates framed boxes featuring dollar bills and crumpled paper painted with acrylic, arranged in various compositions. These works question the material and societal values of art, addressing the essence of painting, the sustainability of artistic practice, and the economic viability of art as a livelihood. The series also reflects on how art resonates with society, inviting viewers to contemplate the intrinsic value of art itself.
Born in 1988, Hongbin Kim studied fine arts at Hongik University in Korea before relocating to New York, where they earned an MFA from the School of Visual Arts. In Korea, the artist worked under the pseudonym VANHADA, a term that embodies both the opposing meanings of "to be enamored with" and "to oppose." This duality reflects the artist's creative philosophy, embracing both positivity and negativity.
This exhibition is part of AHL Foundation’s Art in the Workplace program, which aims to make Korean contemporary art accessible to all within the commercial spaces of daily life. Thanks to the partnership between AHL Foundation and Bank of Hope, visitors can enjoy the exhibition at Bank of Hope’s Manhattan branch until June 30, 2025, during Bank of Hope’s operating hours(9:00 AM – 5:00 PM).
